 uld make us suspicious. People love saying success comes from talent and e
 ffort. It is clean\, flattering\, and useful if you already made it. Other
  people say success is mostly luck: timing\, birth year\, geography\, the 
 right market\, the right accident\, the right person opening the right doo
 r. And then there is the third answer people get very quiet around: Social
  protection. Family wealth. Networks. Class. Institutional access. A safet
 y net. A second chance after failure. Someone paying rent while you “tak
 e risks.” Someone making the introduction that changes everything. So th
 is debate is built around one uncomfortable question:\n\nAre successful pe
 ople mostly talented\, lucky\, or socially protected?\n\nNot resentment th
 eatre. Not winner-worship. Not everyone using their own biography as proof
  that the universe is fair. A real debate about merit\, luck\, effort\, cl
 ass\, networks\, timing\, and the stories people tell so success feels des
 erved.\n\nA few questions already sitting in my head\n\n• “How much of
  success is talent\, and how much is being allowed to fail safely?”\n•
  “Do successful people underestimate luck because it threatens the story
  they need about themselves?”\n• “Is hard work still meaningful if t
 he starting lines are wildly different?”\n• “What matters more: skil
 l\, timing\, family\, confidence\, social class\, or knowing the right peo
 ple?”\n• “When does ‘I earned this’ become a useful lie?”\n•
  “Are we too quick to dismiss successful people as lucky\, or too quick 
 to worship them as exceptional?”\n• “What kind of success would actu
 ally be fair to admire?”\n• “If two people work equally hard and onl
 y one gets protected after failure\, what are we really rewarding?”\n\nH
 ow the debate will work\n\nWe’ll start with a quick room vote:\n\nTalent
  / effort\n\nLuck / timing\n\nSocial protection\n\nMixed / undecided\n\nTh
 en we’ll split the room by current lean and move through three rounds:\n
 \n1. The merit case\n\nWhat is the strongest argument that successful peop
 le really are unusually talented\, disciplined\, or hard-working?\n\n1. Th
 e luck case\n\nHow much of success depends on timing\, geography\, market 
 conditions\, accidents\, and being in the right place before anyone knew i
 t was the right place?\n\n1. The protection case\n\nWhat role do family we
 alth\, class\, networks\, institutions\, credentials\, and second chances 
 play in making success possible?\n\nThen we’ll do a final vote and see w
 hat shifted. You can change sides if your view changes. That is not weakne
 ss. That is the whole point. Short comments beat speeches. Strong argument
 s beat loud certainty. Pushback is welcome. Dunking is boring. No one gets
  to turn the room into their personal autobiography for twenty minutes.\n\
 nThe room I want\n\nPeople willing to be honest about success without gett
 ing lazy. Not “rich people bad.” Not “winners deserve everything.”
  Not everyone pretending their own life story proves the universe. Attack 
 arguments\, not people. Make room for quieter people. And if you feel your
 self getting defensive\, good. That probably means the debate has found so

 cy\n\nOur weekend events regularly have waitlists of 20 or more people. If
  you can no longer attend\, please update your RSVP by Thursday evening. T
 his gives someone on the waitlist enough time to make plans and take the a
 vailable spot. Members who remain marked as attending and miss two events 
 without cancelling may be removed from the group. Emergencies happen\; if 
 something unavoidable comes up\, please message the organizer. Keeping you
 r RSVP accurate helps limited seats go to people who can actually attend.
