SUMMARY:👁️ Debate Night - should you be your real self in public\, or
 put on a mask?
DESCRIPTION:👁️ Debate Night - should you be your real self in public\,
  or put on a mask?\n\nStructured debate + room vote.\n\nShort summary\n\nV
isibility sounds like freedom. Be recognized. Be represented. Stop hiding.
That is the good version. But there is another version too: being watched
 \, branded\, judged\, flattened\, disciplined\, and turned into a public i
dentity before you have even had time to be a person. So here is the motio
n: Being more visible makes people freer. You will have to take a side. Th
is debate is tied to shame\, freedom\, public identity\, social media\, Pr
ide\, self-consciousness\, and whether being out in the open liberates peo
ple or trains them to perform themselves better. Not culture-war sludge. N
ot slogans. A real debate.\n\nA few questions already sitting in my head\n
\n• "When does visibility become freedom\, and when does it become surve
illance?"\n• "Can being out in the open reduce shame\, or does it create
new kinds of performance?"\n• "Does public identity protect people\, or
trap them inside a simpler version of themselves?"\n• "What has social
media done to the feeling of being watched?"\n• "Is privacy still necess
ary for becoming yourself?"\n• "Who benefits when everyone is encouraged
to be more visible?"\n\nOptional fuel for the debate\n\n• TED - Glenn G
reenwald: Why privacy matters\n• TED - Monica Lewinsky: The price of sha
me\n\nMorgana Bailey — “The danger of hiding who you are”\n\nYouTube
\n\nHow the debate will work\n\nWe'll start with a quick vote: Yes / No /
Undecided. Then we split the room by current lean and debate the strongest
version of both sides. Short comments beat speeches. Strong arguments bea
t loud certainty. Changing your mind is allowed. No dunking. No dominance
games. No turning identity into a weapon. A serious room.\n\nWhen and wher
 e\n\n🗓️ Date: Sunday\, August 16th\, 2026 🕒 Time: 3:00 PM - 5:00 P
M 📍 Location: Vancouver Central Library 350 West Georgia Street\, Vanco
uver\, BC Level 8 rooftop garden area\, outside behind the elevators. Cap:
12 + waitlist Small room on purpose. Debate dies when too many people are
trying to win at once.\n\nWeekend RSVP policy\n\nOur weekend events regul
arly have waitlists of 20 or more people. If you can no longer attend\, pl
ease update your RSVP by Thursday evening. This gives someone on the waitl
ist enough time to make plans and take the available spot. Members who rem
ain marked as attending and miss two events without cancelling may be remo
ved from the group. Emergencies happen\; if something unavoidable comes up
\, please message the organizer. Keeping your RSVP accurate helps limited
seats go to people who can actually attend.
