SUMMARY:🎮 Game Design Discussion #1 : Twenty Years\, Twenty Lessons
DESCRIPTION:🎮 First Game Design Discussion: Twenty Years\, Twenty Lesson
s\n\nOur first meeting will focus on Mark Rosewater’s GDC talk *Twenty Y
ears\, Twenty Lessons*. We’ll discuss what makes players care\, how desi
gn should respond to player behaviour\, and which lessons still hold up to
day. We’ll begin with 15 minutes of introductions\, followed by about an
hour of discussion.\n\nA few questions to think about:\n\n• If players
keep using a mechanic “wrong\,” should we teach them\, or redesign it
around their instincts?\n• Is it better for some players to love your ga
me and others to hate it\, or for everyone to think it’s merely fine?\n
 • If the best strategy for winning is boring\, has the design failed?\n
 • When do restrictions breed creativity\, and when do they simply make a
design worse?\n\nPlease watch the talk beforehand 📅 Saturday\, Septemb
er 12 at 8:30 PM PT 📍 The Discord link to join will be shared in the Me
 etup event chat with attendees.
