SUMMARY:🎓🍺 Philosophy Pub - what is education actually for?
DESCRIPTION:Informal philosophy pub conversation - no required reading.\n\n
Short summary\n\nEveryone says education matters. Then you ask what it is
actually for and the answers start getting slippery. Is it for knowledge?
A job? Citizenship? Character? Status? Freedom? Obedience? A nicer résum
é? A more expensive way to become employable? This Philosophy Pub is an i
nformal pub conversation about what education is supposed to do to a perso
 n. Not a lecture. Not a course. Not networking with better vocabulary. Jus
t a table\, a real question\, and people willing to think out loud without
pretending they have solved the school system between sips. The question
is simple enough to enter and big enough to get uncomfortable: What is edu
cation for?\n\nA few questions already sitting in my head\n\n• “Is edu
cation supposed to make you employable\, or make you harder to manipulate?
”\n• “What should a person know even if it never helps them get a jo
b?”\n• “Does school build character\, or mostly train obedience?”\
n• “When does education become status decoration?”\n• “Can unive
rsities still teach wisdom\, or mostly credentials?”\n• “What kind o
f education actually makes someone freer?”\n• “Who benefits when edu
cation is treated mainly as career preparation?”\n\nHow the evening will
go\n\nWe’ll meet at Fionn MacCool’s\, settle in\, and open with one q
uestion: “What did your education actually give you that still matters?
” Then we’ll let the room work. This will be lightly hosted\, not over
-managed. No required reading. No expert status needed. No one turning the
table into their personal TED Talk. Push back cleanly. Ask better questio
ns. Leave room for people who think before they speak. That’s usually wh
ere the good part starts.\n\nFood / drinks\n\nAttendees buy their own food
or drinks if they order. No pressure either way.\n\nWhen and where\n\n
