Short summary

Some biographies turn people into saints. Some turn them into villains. The better ones make that impossible. Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs is useful because Jobs is not easy to flatten. He is brilliant, difficult, obsessive, charismatic, cruel, visionary, controlling, childish, disciplined, impossible, and genuinely consequential. That is exactly why this is worth a room. Not because we need another “genius founder” worship session. Not because everyone should pretend being awful is just the price of greatness. Not because Apple nostalgia needs two hours of our lives. I want the more interesting conversation: What do we do with people who make beautiful things and damage people along the way? How much bad behaviour gets excused when the products are good enough? And why are modern people still so hungry for the myth of the singular genius who bends the world to his taste?

How the afternoon will go

Come having finished the full biography. We’ll start with one question: “What part of Jobs’ life made you most uncomfortable to admire?” Then we’ll stay close to the book: the personality, the work, the relationships, the myth-making, the cruelty, the taste, the ambition, and the way Isaacson turns a business life into a study of character. Full-book spoilers are expected. Not startup worship. Not anti-tech ranting. Not everyone using Jobs as a personality test. A real discussion about life-writing, power, creativity, and the cost of getting exactly what you want.
