Community Ideas Lab - small groups, practical ideas, no prep. What this is A lot of people complain about Vancouver like it is a hobby. Fair. The city gives us material. For this one, we’re turning that energy into something more useful: a small participatory workshop where people choose one Vancouver problem and build one practical response.
Poetry gets ruined when people treat it like a code to crack. It also gets ruined when people treat it like vague emotional wallpaper. This night is meant to sit somewhere better. Your phone has had enough of your attention. For two hours, we’re doing the opposite of the internet: sitting in a room with other people and actually reading. No assigned book. No performance. No one asking you to summarize your thoughts every five minutes.
Book club discussion - read Book V only beforehand. The end of The Lord of the Rings is too big to rush. So we’re splitting *The Return of the King* and giving its first half the room it deserves. Read Book V only. Not Book VI. Not the full novel.
Meeting point We'll meet at the Jericho Beach Pier map pin at 1300 Discovery St, on the beach a few metres in front of the washrooms, as at our August gathering. I'll post the exact gathering spot in the event comments before the event. There's something about being near the water at night that makes people a little more honest.
